This weekend belonged to the Rockstar Fam!
Through the rain & mud on Saturday the RXL Division team – Sarnia Rockstar racked up a solid 2-0 start to the 2011 season. After the bar was set, the CX4 Division teams followed up on Sunday in much milder weather with Rockstar Wawa bringing home the 1st place prize and Owen Sound Rockstar Extreme taking second place. RS Mount Hope Bedlam placed 8th. A special THANK YOU goes out to our pit crews, coaches, supporters & fans. Hope to see you all on June 11-12 at Flag Raiders Paintball for Event #2.
RXL Matches:
Sarnia Rockstar vs Niagara Aces
Score 8 – 3It was a rainy morning going into our first game of the season. Niagara Aces capitalized within the first 6 min taking 3 points to lead the game. We then took a 5 min major to leave us down to four players to catch up to the Aces. Before going back into the field we regrouped and changed the game plan. Rockstar came out very aggressive and started to kill the penalty without losing anymore points. By the end of the 40 min game play Rockstar never gave Niagara Aces any chances of earning anymore points, we ended the match with a victory of 8 to 3.
Sarnia Rockstar vs Dundas DemolitionScore 11 – 5
We didn’t know anything about Dundas Demolition. We knew this was a team that played in the MXL in 2010 but knew this team didn’t have a full roster team till the roster deadline. We came out strong taking the first points and adjusting to Demolitions game style. Dundas Demolition got into trouble during the first half taking major and minor penalties leading into the second half. We capitalized on these and gained points so it would be hard for them to catch up. Dundas played very well, the weather or last minute player additions could of been a factor in this game.
CX4 Divisions
WaWa, Owen Sound and Mount Hope Rockstar
These were all new players playing in the CXBL league. We worked all winter long getting the players to adjust to the game play in the league. On Sunday we arrived at 06:30 organizing our pits, players cards and paint for a long day of paintball. 15 teams are registered for this division and we knew only a few teams that we practiced with during the winter. It was hard to tell who was going to be in the final 4. WaWa and Owen Sound Rockstar played their matches without losing any games qualifying them to skip round three and go straight to the final bracket. Mount Hope Rockstar had lost 2 matches and was heading to the 3rd round to see if they can qualify to make the final round. Unfortunately Mount Hope lost a couple of games in the 3rd round ending their day with 8th place. Since WaWa and Owen Sound didn’t have to play in the 3rd round the players watched potential teams and organized there strategy of winning. The top four teams to play in the finals came down to WaWa vs Oakville and Owen Sound vs Codrington.
Wawa lost their first game against Oakville and all in our minds was “Here we go again”. Last year our CX4 team would go into the finals and lose their matches so that being said we had to get rid of the monkey on our shoulder. We regrouped and took the last 2 games away from Oakville leading the team to play for either first or second.
Owen Sound and Codrington matches came down to who would play WaWa Rockstar for 1st or 2nd. These two teams battled it out, Codrington was a very strong team. I watched them all day and they had their up’s and downs so it was unpredictable to see what they were going to do. In the end Owen Sound took the win and were going to face their sister team WaWa for first or second place victories.
WaWa came out strong out of the box, they wanted to take home the glory this day. Owen Sound gave them a battle but lost 2 games giving WaWa Rockstar the first place victory for event 1.
