We arrived in Thailand on the evening of February 28th with the weather, 104 Fahrenheit. It was the beginning of the dry season and we were prepared for what was ahead of us. Once we settled in some of us went to start our adventure visiting the night markets and enjoying the Asian culture of Bangkok. Paintball wasn’t on our minds for the first couple of days, we wanted to absorb the culture and to enjoy what Asia had to offer. We met new friends from different countries such as Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines, Singapore and many others to list. We also met other friends showcasing the new extreme sport “Ultimate Tazer”. It was great to see Thomas Taylor in another country other than seeing him in Canada or the United States.

Game time started on Friday March 2nd playing against 3 teams for our first day. We started our first match approx 08:30 and then ended our matches by 2pm. The 3 teams we went against were tough opponents and we had to adjust to the game style they were accustomed to playing. The Millenium format was different but we adjusted to the style of play. The pit crew also played a big part in the success. Without organization and control, games could of turned for the worst. The outcome was in our favor winning all 3 matches. During the evening the players got together before calling the night to discuss the next game plan since Saturday was going to be another long day playing against 4 teams.

Our matches started at 1pm on Saturday under thehot sun. We didn’t know what to expect from the other teams but knew that we had another hard day of playing against talented teams. Hydration played a big part; we kept under the shade and drank plenty of water and coconut juice. Another strategy we had going was that paint was kept in a nice air-conditioned van. We had our pit crew podding before game play and paint was ready for the players when game time started. Paintballs in the heat affected some teams. Paintballs did not break or some would even expand. We only used the best paint available “GI Sportz Paintball” proved to be the winning paintball for this event. We ended our matches before sundown winning all 4 matches making us undefeated so far going into Sunday with 1 match then playing the finals. That night the players got together for some North American Style Pizza. It wasn’t your typical Asian dinner but everybody was tired of heading out of the hotel, instead hung around one of the players rooms.

The big day was upon us; we came to Asia not knowing what outcome would be. It would be either a great vacation and to experience what paintball was like half way across the world or be victorious. We left the hotel at 7am and played our final match just before 9am. The outcome gave us an undefeated record of 8 – 0 leading into the semi finals. You couldn’t imagine the thrill and excitement that went thru all the player’s minds. Shockwave Canada also made it to the finals bringing the 2 Canadian teams a chance to take home the Divisional trophies. Both teams helped one another from sideline coaching to helping in the pits. I also want to give a big thank you to “Louie D’Alesio” His passion and love of the game helped both teams. His coaching abilities were unbelievable and watching him inspired me to someday be as good as he is. “Mik Vella” for being the Mom to our players and being a big part of the pit crew. “Robert Lee” words can not describe … Thank you

Both teams advanced into the final round playing hard opponents from Asia. Nothing was given and both teams had to battle hard to be victorious on foreign soil. Points went back and forth for both teams but in the end the 2 Canadian teams came out “Champions” of their Divisions. Rockstar Canada went with a record of 11 – 0 not losing 1 match making it a clean sweep for the first International tournament.

New Friends from abroad will always be remembered. We left Canada to meet new players, friends and gained a life time of memories to be cherished in our hearts. “We will never forget the hospitality that Asia gave us” We will see all our friends again ………..
